Bamboo vs Bamboo Charcoal

Bamboo vs Bamboo Charcoal

Bambusa's premium collection of Bamboo Linen is lush, comfy and irresistibly dreamy. Created to be gentle on both your skin and the environment, there are many different elements that make our bamboo bedding unique. We use both bamboo and bamboo charcoal in our range of bedding and lifestyle goods.

What’s the difference between bamboo and bamboo charcoal? Both come with plenty of benefits and are infused with natural goodness and quality, but with a few vital variances.

The Benefits of Bamboo Fabric

Environmentally-Sustainable

Bamboo is not only easy to grow, it’s also the fastest growing land plant on earth, making it a viable sustainable resource to utilise. Bamboo is very robust and can flourish in both tropical and temperate climates. In just two months, a bamboo plant can reach a height of 75 feet. Its versatility allows for countless uses and it requires much less water than cotton to thrive. 100% natural and biodegradable, a bamboo product barely leaves a trace of impact on the environment.

Ultra Comfortable

Not only is bamboo a strong and highly durable fibre made to last, it’s also heavenly soft to the touch. The luxurious, velvety feel of bamboo makes it a top choice for bedding, towels and clothes. Naturally antibacterial, bamboo ensures you keep odour-free and feeling your freshest. Its moisture-wicking properties leaves your skin feeling nice and dry, and it’s also highly insulating so you stay comfortable regardless of the weather. Even the most sensitive skin will feel soothed by this hypoallergenic material.

What is Bamboo Charcoal?

Bamboo charcoal is an upgraded level of 100% Bamboo Linen. It’s made by burning organic bamboo at a very high temperature followed by grinding and filtering into a fine powder. This powder can be used in many different ways, but when woven with natural bamboo fibres it makes beautiful bedding, towels and clothes.

Bamboo Charcoal Benefits

Activated charcoal is an effective absorbent of toxins, chemicals and poisons; it works by trapping them in its highly porous texture. Naturally antibacterial, anti-fungal and absorbent, bamboo charcoal is excellent at removing pollutant particles, odours and bacteria from the body, skin and hair. Once it’s absorbed through the pores, bamboo charcoal also purifies the surrounding air or water in the process.

A 100% colour and dye-free option, bamboo charcoal naturally creates a rich pigmentation, resulting in a beautiful deep grey toned finish.

The Difference Between Bamboo and Bamboo Charcoal

While both bamboo and bamboo charcoal comprise of eco-friendly and comfort benefits, there are a few key differences, that come down to personal preference. Bamboo charcoal bedding is still super soft, though does differ in feel to 100% bamboo sheets with a more linen-like feel. It doesn’t have the natural sheen that bamboo fabric has, and bamboo charcoal bedding is also slightly heavier.

Our charcoal bamboo range includes bedding, towels, quilts and t-shirts. View the range for yourself here.

Why choose Bambusa’s bamboo bedding?

Bambusa's Bamboo Weave

We choose to use bamboo twill woven over plain or sateen woven for all our products. Twill woven differs from its counterparts by having a denser weaving pattern. This makes it feel crisp, withstand stress and resist pilling.

It’s untrue that natural Bamboo Linen will inevitably pill; natural bamboo fabric can resist pilling simply by being woven differently.

The way twill is woven allows the fabric to become stronger and heavier, adding an element of genuine durability that prevents pilling from occurring. This weave is hypoallergenic and perfectly suited to all skin types.

Our Eco-Friendly Packaging

To reduce wastage, Bambusa embodies the idea of “smart packaging”. We pack our bamboo bedding, quilts and mattress toppers using bamboo fabric bags. These can be recycled, but can also easily be reused or repurposed as a washing bag, grocery bag, storage, or even restyled as your own tote bag.

Trusted Certifications

Bambusa promises peace of mind on all products. The producers of our bamboo yarn only use low-impact chemicals along with a closed loop system that doesn’t allow any of the chemicals used in production to leave the factory. We advocate sustainability in every phase, which is why all chemicals and dye used in production are recycled.

All yarn used by our production has been OEKO-TEX® 100 approved. The standard 100 by OEKO-TEX® is a worldwide, independent certification system for textile products. Attaining this certification means the product is in accordance with all parts of the required criteria.

No Nasty Chemicals

A common issue with bamboo bedding is it’s prone to shrinkage. To remedy this, many brands will use nasty chemicals to pre-shrink their bamboo bedding before selling.

Bambusa is all about being toxic-free, which is why we use a natural alternative instead. Our method involves calculating the precise shrinkage and then making our bamboo bedding larger to accommodate for it. After the first two washes, your bedding will remain true to size without any further shrinkage.
